MICCL is committing to emphasize wellbeing of entire workforce as well as local
community regarding health care sector; the organization develops Mine Town Hospital
and MICCL clinic whilst Ivanhoe Mine also offers ante-natal care to pregnant mothers
and necessary health care including nutrition promotion programme to under 5-year
children living in the area of five-mile radius of S&K project site.
- Health School, includes monthly health talks in cooperation with MCWA (Maternal
and Child Welfare Association)given to the Mine Town public.
- Ante-natal care (the care of pregnant women).
- Vaccination clinics for children under the age of one (Universal Child Immunization
Program).
- Prevention and control of Hepatitis-B infection.
- Prevention and control of blindness caused by Vitamin A deficiency.
- Nutrition promotion program (i.e. Clinic activities for children under the age of
five).
The Mine Town hospital mainly provides treatments in and out patients for all employees
as well their kindred. As for emergency situation, local patients from contiguous
areas are accepted for treatment in Mine Town Hospital. The 16-bed Mine Town Hospital
is staffed by three medical doctors, one dental surgeon, five nurses, seven nurse-aid
cleaners, four security men, two gardeners and one driver for the hospital ambulance.
After MICCL assumed control of the Mine Town Hospital in July, 1999, it was upgraded
to raise the standards of health care being provided. The MICCL Clinic, which is
mainly responsible for work-site accidents and for medical evacuations from the
worksite to hospital, is open seven days a week from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The clinic
doctor is available oncall 24 hours a day for any work-site injuries and emergencies.
Philanthropic
Program
Ivanhoe Mines (Healthcare activities for residents within a five-mile radius of
the S & K Copper Project) Introduction The main task of the Ivanhoe Mines Philanthropic
Program is to upgrade the community health and living standards within a five-mile
radius of the S&K Copper Project.
This task is completed through public health education and early hospital-care for
people in the community. The specific objective of the program was developed and
implemented by the Mine Town Hospital staff under close supervision of the YIC head
office in Yangon.
